This WorkBook requires Mathwright Library Player 2000 to read it. To download the book, press the button on the left. A self-extracting file will be downloaded. Either save it to disk and execute it later, or simply select "Open it" from the popup dialog. This places the book, along with its documentation, on the Start, Programs, Mathwright Library menu, so that you may read it whenever you like.

Title: Population Growth

Book Description: The purpose of this lab is to develop, from assumptions about the derivative of a changing quantity (in this case, population size or position as they change in time), models that can describe and make predictions about the quantity that is changing. We are principally interested in models of population growth.

Authors: James White and Samad Mortabit

Contained in Calculus 1 Course.

Suggested Use: Instructions are under the (?) button. For this laboratory, students are to write a self-contained, well-organized exposition and analysis of the issues raised. In this sense, the report differs from that of previous laboratories. Their aim will be to present an overview of the issues, articulating clearly what they are, and how they have been addressed. The report will thus be an essay whose aim is to present in a concise but clear way the computational and conceptual techniques that were explored. There is, therefore no report page for this laboratory.

Topics: exponential function, growth models, differentiation, population dynamics
