Microworld: Limits and Continuity: (All in One)

Author: Samuel Masih

This 5-page Microworld assembles a variety of tools for visualizing left, right, and two-sided limits of functions of a single variable. The reader may define functions with algebraic forms, or may define functions piecewise. There is a versatile function grapher on each page of the exploration that allows the reader to zoom in or out around a chosen point, and then to select points along the graph to see the function values, and to learn the conventions that associate function graphs with sets of ordered pairs. This latter important and powerful heuristic reinforces the visualization encouraged in later pages.

In the closing pages of the book, the author examines and explains left and right hand limits, their connection to limits in general, and, finally, he formulates for readers to explore the idea of continuity at a point. The examples that readers construct may be carried on to later pages using the handy: Restore Graph buttons.

The Microworld explores these themes in 4 interactive pages + a Table of Contents.
