An alternative way to join:

Congratulations! You are about to embark on an adventure of ideas that may change the way you think about teaching or learning mathematics on computers. Our award-winning software has been quietly succeeding for years to do what others can only advertise to do. We bring mathematics to life for you by putting you in charge of your own learning. Each of our WorkBooks or Microworlds is designed to let you ask your own questions, and learn at your own pace. You will not find in our books the usual "electronic quizzes" that only ask you questions, and then tell you whether you got the right answer. There will be many questions and answers. The difference is, that with us, many of the questions will be yours!

How do we do it? All of our WorkBooks and Microworlds are written by teachers who know what the critical questions are that advance learning. And we know that these questions really only have value when you ask them. Very little software can let you ask your own questions. Ours was designed from the beginning to invite you to do just that. You will have to see it to believe it. But you will not be disappointed.

Once you join the Library, you have free access, on any of your computers, to any of the WorkBooks or Microworlds in the Stacks for the duration of your 1-year subscription period. After one year, you may renew your membership at the Library Store order center to download new WorkBooks or to view Microworlds. Of course, if a member adds any books to his private collection by downloading it to his own computer to view offline, with Mathwright32 Reader, then he has permanent access to the book, even after the membership expires.

Once you have installed MathwrightWeb, then you may "test drive" the Library before you join with any of our 15+ Microworlds at the Visualization Studio of the MATH Cafe. You may read the free Microworlds there in your ActiveX enabled browser. The Introduction to Mathwright32 Microworld is also freely available for Mathwright32 Reader.

We offer two kinds of membership. Each is for a term of one full year. Each gives full access to the Library books.

The first form of membership is Individual Membership

The one-year Individual Membership price is $20.00 (USD).

The second form of membership is Institutional Membership

This option is for entire institutions (schools, libraries, etc.) is to obtain an Institutional License. It provides a license for general use for one year either on the Local Network at a school, library facility, or other educational institution, or on the students' private machines...

When you purchase the license, you receive a CD with the collection of current Library books and Players in case you want to install them on a network machine, or distribute them to students for their own machines. The CD comes with the login password that will give any user of the network access to all of the WorkBooks and Microworlds of the Library online. This will allow you and your students to visit the web library on the network and download any WorkBooks or read any Microworlds they choose. The license (and password) also allows users to read the WorkBooks at home, or on non-networked campus machines.

The one-year Institutional membership price is $250.00 (USD).

You may purchase one through an online email order, and must supply a return mail address where we can send the CD and password for your institution. We accept Purchase Orders, or payment may be made by credit card at the Library Store.

If you would like to test drive the Library first, then Visit the MATH Cafe to learn about our Visualization Studio. This corner of the Library explores questions of pedagogy and technology at their intersection, on the cutting edge of our ongoing research. And our collection of Interactive Web Books is free to all visitors (in your browser) so that you may see for yourself what we are up to.

Each Mathwright book attempts to place the player, the learner, in the driver's seat. All books have been created by teachers at the Undergraduate and Secondary levels, with the exception of a few in the Young Players category that were created by students.
In order to encourage active exploration, the books are designed (to the limits of our ability) to be easy for students to use, but at the same time, to be truly interactive. The computational environment recedes into the background so that the mathematical or scientific topic of interest comes under the spotlight.

This means that students may often ask questions or explore ideas that even the author of the book did not anticipate. It requires an expressive and flexible reading environment. So we place that environment, an object-oriented computer algebra and graphics language, on the player's machine. It is called the Mathwright Library Player, or, in its 32-bit form, MathwrightWeb. The Mathwright Library uses the web, not principally as a repository of "information," but as a source of "experiences."

Our holdings consist of Microworlds, that you may read online (in your ActiveX enabled browser) with the MathwrightWeb plugin, or offline with our Mathwright32 Reader. And we maintain our legacy collection of 149 WorkBooks, that you read offline with Mathwright Library Player 2000. Together, the collection has roughly 250 books. You may see them all, listed by level, with a brief description of each here.

Joining the New Mathwright Library and Cafe is a 3-step procedure:
(Steps 1 and 2 may be reversed.)

First, purchase your membership at the Library Store order center. If you use a credit card, you will be able to begin downloading new WorkBooks or reading new Microworlds within a minute. You may also use our email order form to send a purchase order, if you prefer not to use a credit card.

Institutions (such as schools or libraries) might like to consider obtaining an Institution License which will give an entire campus network access to the Library collection for a full year. Simply order the license online at the Library Store order center and include your address. When you receive the Network CD and Password, students may use it to download WorkBooks or read Microworlds. You may also use the email order form to submit a Purchase Order.

An Institution License provides a license for general use for one year either on the Local Network at a school, library facility, or other educational institution, or on the students' private machines..

When you purchase the license, you receive a login password (on the CD that contains all the current Library books and installations) that will give any user of the network access to all of the WorkBooks and Microworlds of the Library. This will allow you and your students to visit the web library on the network and download any WorkBooks or read any Microworlds they choose. The license also allows users to read the WorkBooks at home, or on non-networked campus machines.

The cost for an Institutional License is $250.00 per year. You may purchase one through an online email order, and must supply a return address where we can send the CD and password for your institution. We accept Purchase Orders, or payment may be made by credit card at the Library Store.

Second, depending on which Player you want to start with, get it at the appropriate Start Here page:

If you have installed the MathwrightWeb ActiveX Control from the Free Stuff page, and would like to read a book in your browser right away, then visit the MathwrightWeb page for general instructions. You should read these, because MathwrightWeb represents a new web technology with some options that may not be familiar.

If you have added a book to your private collection for offline reading, then browse to the Start, Programs, Mathwright Library menu (for Library Player 2000) or to Start, Programs, Mathwright32 Reader menu (for Mathwright32 Reader). You should find a new folder. Click the icon to open your WorkBook or Microworld. If for some reason it does not open, write to us, and we'll explain how to do it by hand.

After that , go to the Stacks to choose WorkBook or Microworld Titles you want to download to your computer.

You may find these titles in several ways.

Visit the Library here on the web, and browse for whatever WorkBooks or Microworlds you might like to read. When you choose a WorkBook, download it to your computer. When you do that, you may read it whenever you want, on your computer. In this way, you may build your own Mathwright reference library on your own computer and visit this website only when you desire to add to it.

We recommend browsers that are upwardly compatible Microsoft Internet Explorer 4. All versions of Windows later than version 3.1 should be O.K. If you are using Windows 2000, then while Mathwright 2000 works with it, we recommend 32-bit MathwrightWeb or Mathwright32.
